This week we spoke to Col. Darcy Brewer, the Garrison Commander for the Presidio of Monterey. He spoke to us about the vision of the Presidio of Monterey and how the Presidio will continue to be an active and positive neighbor to the Monterey Peninsula. Also, Brian Lamar read Day 2 of the four-day hike from a 11 Calvary Division soldiers field trip to Big Sur.

This week we heard from Ron Holland who is the executive director of the Veteran's Transition Center in Marina, Calif. He told us how his department partners up with the VA to help the 1,600 homeless veterans in the area. We also heard Brian Lamar read the first day of the four-day hike from 11th Cavalry troops who hike all the way from Monterey to south Big Sur.

John talked to us about NTC and what the importance of this training area is to the military in terms of preparing for war. We also heard from the Defense Language Institute's Sgt. Maj. Interviewed Stanley Bell (DLIFLC Mission Support) and Ben De La Selva (President, DLIFLC Alumni Association) about the upcoming DLIFLC Anniversary Ball, to be held on 24 OCT 09. Another guest was Dusan Tatomirovich (DLIFLC StratComm), who discussed his life growing up in Yugoslavia, moving to the U.S. under political asylum, and ending up locally as a Serbian-Croatian instructor.

Interviewed Paul Boczkowski, a Vietnam veteran helping to coordinate the first annual Monterey Vietnam Memorial Ceremony. A member of his platoon will be reissued a Congressional Medal of Honor during the ceremony (open to the public). Additionally, they also talked with Brian Hughes, an independent documentary-maker currently working on a documentary about the U.S. Army Chaplaincy for Al-Jazeera, and the controversy surrounding the topic.

We talked with Faheem Ahmady an Afghan citizen, who was an interpreter in Afghanistan for the U.S. forces and is currently in the U.S. on a special immigration visa. He shared his experiences touring the U.S. We also heard from Maj Rick Miller, who is the battalion executive officer for the 86th signal battalion in Fort Huachuca, Arizona.
